The Faculty Association is sending this email as a reminder of that the deadline extension for submitting extended health and dental claims incurred in 2012 is October 1 2013.
As you are aware, the university transitioned its benefits provider to Sun Life Financial effective July 1, 2012. As part of that transition, there was a change in the process for submitting claims.
Sun Life requires all claims to be submitted within 90 days of the end of the calendar year that the service or supplies were incurred. As this administrative change was not clearly communicated at the time of the transition, we are extending the allowable time to submit extended health and dental claims for 2012 until October 1, 2013.
Please be aware that on a go forward basis, all claims must be submitted within the first 90 days following the end of the calendar year in which the claims were incurred.
Any previously submitted claims that were declined due to a failure to submit the claim within the first 90 days of 2013 will reprocessed by Sun Life. Faculty are reminded that any 2012 claims not yet submitted to Sun Life must be sent to them by October 1, 2013.
