We learned last week that members of CUPE 3287, which represents sessional lecturers at the U of S, are in the midst of a forced vote on an “Employer Best and Final Offer to Settle Tentative Agreement.” Voting concludes March 7.
The union’s bargaining team is not recommending acceptance of the offer. In fact, it is encouraging members to vote no. The offer falls short of the union’s expectations and does not include retroactive pay for 2022, or any portion of 2023 prior to the date of acceptance. The negotiating committee was prepared to bring the employer’s offer to the membership for ratification if it included retro pay, which the union calculates would have totaled less than $98,000.
The union is meeting with members tonight and will continue to post information to its website.
The current collective agreement expired August 31, 2021.
We continue to support CUPE 3287’s efforts to negotiate a fair collective agreement.
