Appeals

The Collective Agreement sets out the processes that must be followed for faculty appointments, renewal of probation, tenure, promotion, salary review and sabbatical leaves. Unlike other unionized workplaces, decisions affecting the careers of USFA members are made by colleagues, not the employer, and accordingly we refer to these processes as "collegial processes."

The Collective Agreement stipulates that candidates can appeal negative decisions. If you have received a negative decision in any of the collegial processes, it is important that you contact the USFA office. If the situation warrants an appeal, the USFA Executive Committee and knowledgeable staff will be able to assist you with this process, including preparing materials and helping to find a colleague to act as your advocate.

If you have questions about collegial processes, the appeal process or the Collective Agreement generally, contact the USFA office.
