At a special meeting of the USFA Executive Committee, a motion was passed unanimously to recommend USFA members accept the tentative agreement to extend the 2010-2013 Collective Agreement to June 30, 2014.
The University of Saskatchewan is facing a projected deficit. Its cause and magnitude has received considerable attention in meetings across campus and in the media. What is certain is that much of the deficit stems from an indication that there is a major change in the way the Provincial government will fund post-secondary education into the future. This austerity approach will have a major negative impact on the quality of education at the University.
Recommending acceptance of modest salary increases at this time provides our new President with an opportunity to advocate for funding changes and shows the USFA commitment to quality post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan. The tentative agreement attempts to alleviate some of the financial pressure and to avoid the deterioration of the quality and breadth of current programs that would result from the loss of faculty positions at the University.
Pursuant to Section 10 (a) of the Constitution of the University of Saskatchewan Faculty Association, a Special General Meeting of the Faculty Association will be held on Wednesday, March 6 at 3:00 p.m. in room 105 Thorvaldson Building.
The purpose of the meeting is to consider the tentative agreement to extend the 2010-2013 Collective Agreement to June 30, 2014. Meeting packages are being distributed via campus mail. Plan to attend.
